| Replacing
Windows NT Server with Linux |
![]() |
This is the home page for a new document that I am working on that I hope will eventually become good enough to be put in the Linux Documentation Project.
The document is a HOWTO on replacing Windows NT Server with Linux and basically describes my experiences with replacing a Windows NT 4.0 server with RedHat Linux 5.0. You can find the document here.
I am working on more detailed chapters for:
Understanding Network Operating Systems
RedHat Linux Basics
Windows Domains
a. Using Policy Editor on Windows 95
b. Planning a Windows Domain
c. Using NIS to share your passwd file with other Unix servers
Windows 95 User Profiles.
Managing network files (permissions, groups, etc) on the Linux
server.
More detail on NetaTalk.
Remote Access (Setting up your Linux Server to handle dail-in)
TCP/IP.
DNS.
This HOWTO is VERY rough at this point, so I am looking for professional suggestions. I have along way to go, but you have to start somewhere. If I would have had a reference book for Linux like the one I had for NT, I wouldn't have made the mistake of installing NT in the first place, so I am trying to develop something that others can use as a reference guide.
Please let me know what you think by sending mail to qcoldiro@unlinfo.unl.edu.
